Connecting a CODA to FlowVision 2.0™ tutorial

In this article, we explain how to connect a CODA meter or controller to Alicat’s graphical user interface program FlowVision 2.0™. This program enables users to easily collect and analyze data from Alicat’s mass flow and pressure devices.

Connecting a CODA meter to FlowVision 2.0™

Step-by-step instructions

To use FlowVision 2.0™, the device needs to be added to the Devices module list.

  1. Use a USB-C cable to connect your CODA Coriolis mass flow meter to the computer.

Note: A green LED light on the CODA Coriolis mass flow meter indicates power input.

  1. Open FlowVision 2.0™.
  2. Click the Devices icon located on the top, left side panel.
  3. Click the green plus sign next to the search bar under Devices.
  4. A new “Add Device” window will pop-up displaying two options: Wired or Bluetooth. Select “Wired”.
  5. Unless otherwise specified, check that the parameters are as follows:
    1. Device ID: 1
    2. Baud Rate: 19200
  6. Click Add.

Note: If the connection is successful, the device will appear as an entry under the Devices module.

  1. Exit out of the “Add Device” window when finished adding a device.

Connecting a CODA controller to FlowVision 2.0™

Each package comes with the following:

You will additionally need the following:

  • DB15 connector
  • USB-C to USB-A cable
  • Power supply

Step-by-step instructions
  1. Use a DB15 connector to supply power to your CODA Coriolis mass flow controller.
    1. Turn the power supply on and use the course knob to turn it up to 24 volts.
    2. Connect the power wire (pin 9) to the positive terminal of the power supply and connect the ground wire (pin 10) to the ground terminal of the power supply.

Note: A green LED light on the CODA Coriolis mass flow controller indicates power input.

To use FlowVision 2.0™, the device needs to be added to the Devices module list:

  1. Use a USB-C to USB-A cable to connect your CODA Coriolis mass flow controller to the computer.
  2. Open FlowVision 2.0™.
  3. Click the Devices icon located on the top, left side panel.
  4. Click the green plus sign next to the search bar under Devices.
  5. A new “Add Device” window will pop-up displaying two options: Wired or Bluetooth. Select
  6. Unless otherwise specified, check that the parameters are as follows:
    1. Device ID: 1
    2. Baud Rate: 19200
  7. Click Add.

Note: If the connection is successful, the device appears as an entry under the Devices module.

  1. Exit out of the “Add Device” window when you are finished adding the device.

To assign a setpoint for the CODA Coriolis mass flow controller:

  1. Click the settings symbol on the top, right hand corner.
  2. A new window will appear. Click Controller.
  3. If the setpoint source is set to Analog, use the dropdown arrow to change it to Serial. Click Apply.

Note: A message may appear when you make this change. Simply unplug and replug the DB15 connector with the USB-C to USB-A cable still connected to the computer.

  1. Exit out of the window. You can now assign a setpoint to your CODA Coriolis mass flow controller by navigating back to the main screen and filling out the blank space under Setpoint.

Note: Each CODA Coriolis mass flow controller has a full-scale that is not necessarily the same as another CODA Coriolis mass flow controller. Be sure to check the full-scale range of your device which can be found on the calibration sheet as part of your CODA package.
